This Holton H180 Elkhorn era, (SN 539101), is a great horn. It has fantastic valves (great compression, quick, quiet), everything works as intended, and it has a very beautiful warm sound while being quite easy to play as well. These horns are very similar to the H179 (the main difference being that the H180 is yellow brass instead of nickel silver). If you're looking at H179s, this would also be a great choice to consider.
Cosmetically it is in pretty good shape, though it does have a few little dents and dings and some minor lacquer wear. Overall though, this is a fantastic horn that plays quite amazing and looks great!
There are some dents that I was not able to get out all of the way. The main one to know about is right at the bell to leadpipe brace. There was a dent there that I'm guessing was from shipping damage in the case that the horn came in (which is not with the horn any more - I've replaced that case!). I had my friend and teacher John Ericson do his best on that dent, but because I want to keep the price of this horn as budget friendly as possible, I decided to only get the dent out as much as could be done without removing the bell. I'm happy with how it turned out. All of the little dents and dings (and a little wave on the rim of the bell flare) are purely cosmetic and are not affecting how the horn plays at all.
This horn comes with a used but good hard shell case. The case has some leftover spray paint probably from being marked for a school at some point. But there are no cracks or breaks in the case, and it works great with this horn. No mouthpiece is included, but because I consider this a budget horn aimed at a student market, if you're needing a mouthpiece, I'm willing to send a good, generic one with this horn - just contact me at purchase and I'll include it for free.
