Paxman makes some of the finest descant horns you can buy, and this vintage 40A is no exception. It plays beautifully, has great agility, and a beautiful sound. It is unlacquered, has good valves, and everything works as it should. This horn has been professionally inspected and serviced in my shop, and is ready to play!
This particular horn was played by jazz horn player Mark Taylor, and according to the owner of the horn (who is consigning it with me and is a personal friend of Mark Taylor) this is the horn that he used on all of his recordings. Here is a link to one of Mark Taylor's recordings.
Do note that this horn has pretty good valve compression, but it is not perfect. I did go ahead and put heavier weight valve oil in the valves just to be safe, but it still plays fine without the heavier valve oil.
This horn also comes with heavy weight valve caps as an added bonus. These can give a little more mass to the horn and does allow for louder, heavier playing when these are installed. Also included is a nice blue Marcus Bonna case in great used condition. No mouthpiece is included.
This horn works fine with either Euro shank or American shank mouthpieces. I used a Euro shank in the video.
